The "John Dwyer Trad Weekend" is named after the great fiddle player from Castletownbere, West Cork. A true living legend of Traditional music John was awarded the coveted "TG4 composer of the year award" in 2010. The festival honours John Dwyer, a native of Cork but resident in nearby New Ross for many years. In 2012, he released his debut CD entitled "The Dursey Sound" and was launched it as part of the inaugural "John Dwyer Trad Weekend".
John Dwyer has contributed greatly to the music scene in Waterford city for many years now encouraging and teaching younger musicians and playing and performing locally.
John Dwyer himself performs at the trad festival and also accompanies musicians in a session or concert. The John Dwyer Trad Weekend includes concerts, sessions in pubs, workshops and good craic is guaranteed. This is a festival not to be missed for lovers of trad music.
